The Artist
Meet Katerina Tsiledaki, a 48-year-old artist holding a B.A in Graphic Design & a M.A in Visual Communication. Beyond her artistic endeavors, she's a resilient cancer survivor. The profound impact of her journey fueled a desire to convert pain into empowerment through art. Her first solo art project, Beyond the Scars, derives inspiration from her personal struggle with cancer, aiming to convey a universal message of strength and transformation.
"Before cancer, my life followed a different path. I had a successful career in broadcast media. The unexpected invasion of cancer prompted a deep transformation, unveiling my true calling – that I am an artist. This life-altering experience inspired my first solo art project."
Now, with a second chance at life, Katerina Tsiledaki is compelled to create art that not only resonates with her but also speaks to the wider world. This journey is not just about her personal transformation; it's an exploration of universal themes of resilience, identity, and the power of art to heal and inspire.

Detailed Description
The project includes females who have faced (or continue to face) deathly illnesses, have suffered burns or other accidents, and whose permanent marks remain indelible on their bodies and souls. Brave females, who are not afraid to expose themselves and, like me, found themselves in a situation that made them reinvent their femininity, reintroduce themselves to their bodies, and essentially love themselves anew.
Since scars can be both physical and psychological, I have raised the questions:
-
How do the participants feel about their scars and the events that caused them?
-
How have these affected their femininity and self-confidence? Did their scars strengthen or weaken them?
These females, each in her own way, fought a battle for their lives and managed to emerge victorious. The project empowers people to challenge contemporary models of female beauty and femininity, explore the process of self-reinvention, celebrate resilience, and highlight the distinctive beauty of a scarred body."

Audio Implementation
"He captured the entire array of emotions a woman goes through..."
In my desire to have original music be part of this immersive experience I approached Lefteris Ioannou (www.lefterisioannou.com), a composer whose music touched me the first time I heard it.
Lefteris wrote a stunning 10 minute orchestral score that translated my experience into music. Through his piece, he captured the entire array of emotions a woman goes through from the moment she discovers she is faced with a life-threatening situation until the moment of profound healing. The first few times I heard his demo, tears were running down my face, his music spoke directly to the core of my soul.
To this effect, we've initiated the recording of this piece, and now, I am seeking your support to finalize the entire process."
A Weaving of Audio & Video
"Imagine emotional connection fostered by the astonishing original music composition"
"Imagine the impact of bringing together these diverse elements: the artistic expressions of my paintings, the video installation featuring the women and their stories, and the emotional connection fostered by the astonishing original music composition. My vision for this project is for the viewers to have an immersive experience that aims to empower those who have endured physical and/or emotional scars".
The final project will consist of two parts. The first part will include the exhibition of the visual works. Subsequently, the visitor will proceed to the second part, in a separate room of the gallery, where a video installation will be exhibited. In this installation, the faces of the women will be projected on the wall in rotation, while their edited responses to the questions I have asked will be played.
Finally, the video installation and in the gallery space, the artworks will be accompanied by an original music score composed specifically for this project by the composer Lefteris Ioannou
